New Tunes! Wu Tang vs the Beatles, Little Dragon, Hyper Color Mixtape!!

February 1, 2010

So I finally got around to checking up on the latest movements around the web. It can be pretty daunting at times. The world moves to fast now, If you don’t check the news for a couple weeks fells like everything has changed!

Anyway, I found some gems whilst sifting through well over 1000 pages of internet hype and info.

Photobucket

Firstly this surprisingly, well done project by a chap named Tom Caruana. On the same vein as The Grey Album he has taken samples, snippets, sounds and soundbites from the Beatles and created a whole new aesthetic for the rhymes of the Wu Tang clan.

And low and behold he pulled it off! I’m a huge fan of the Wu and hate hearing bad efforts for remixes. but this is dope!

Little Dragon

Photobucket

I actually got put onto this super fun and talented band from Sweden, named Little Dragon by my good Buddy Simon. Later finding out that they played in Vancouver not so long ago. I’m sure it’s always the way, you find out about a group a little to late or see them live when you don’t know them yet.

Oh well I know about them now! From all accounts their live show is phenomenal so i will definatley be looking out for them on my travels.

check this cheeky wee video. It looks very DIY which makes even cooler.

Moustache Men DJs – Hyper Color Mix

Photobucket

I actually got given this mix a few months back and have been wanting to pass it on really badly. As it is one of the dopest mix’s I heard in 2009.

The Moustache Men are a Canadian trio coming out of Montreal, Quebec. They teamed up with the very dope Color Magazine, and Adidas footwear to bring out this 59 track stomper!

I just love how this mix goes all over the show. Dropping heavy dub tunes, glitched out hip hop, cumbia, dancehall, and even some tropical house cuts. Not to mention their own custom made edits, mash ups, remixes and turntablism.

check out this tracklist. They definitely know how to jam in the tracks!

Wale post

January 17, 2010

Photobucket

Wale is playing in Vancouver in a few weeks at the best club in the city, Fortune Sound Club. Which I am totally excited about!

So I started having a re-listen to some of his mixtapes and tracks, and it totally reminded why I like all his stuff so much, and that this dude is one of the most exciting things happening in Hip Hop right now.

I thought i would post a few of his mixtapes that have been dropping over the last couple years. If you haven’t heard this dude, start now!

He also just dropped his first full length album called Attention Deficit you may have a little trouble getting it outside the states, but honestly these mixtapes are so bad ass they feel like a full length album and they are FREE!

Gucci Mane done Diplo style

January 14, 2010

Photobucket
If you surf the net looking for new tunes then you most probably seen this popping up all over the place. Straight from Mad Decent head honcho Diplo, this little project remix’s a bunch of tracks from Gucci Mane’s cold war mixtape.

I’m a little on the fence as far as being a fan of Gucci Mane, I mean any one with Gucci in there name is just a little wack. But he still does have some cool shit and a unique style so if you put that, and a roster of some of the dopest producers in the game together then you know its gona be fire!

grab the full quality DL from the Mad Decent blog here .

falling in love again

January 7, 2010

I been really loving downloading mixtapes lately. I used to always just bi-pass them cause I couldn’t be bothered listening for an hour or whatever. But I have come to learn that listening to Mixtapes is the best way to hear new tunes!

The other great thing about a mix is that you can throw it on and do some work and not have to deal with the boring part of tracks as some helpful Dj has blended it all together!

Perfect.

Anyways I thought I would post some Muxtapes (that’s how us Kiwi’s pronounce it) that I have been given or downloaded in my travels and keep them moving through the interweb. Might be a little old to some of you, but quality none the less!

Hola in the Ghetto

December 17, 2009

Hello and welcome to my brand spanking new music blog Ghetto Box

Ghetto Box is going to be my little slice of the interweb. A place to vent some of the masses of music that I am listening to every day! Also some of you may have been to some of my Ghetto Box parties, in Wellington NZ, so this will be a great way to stay in touch with Ghetto Box and what we are doin.

Ghetto Box is A little bit Hip Hop, a little bit electronic, a little bit dubstep, a little bit weird beats, a little bit in between. Don’t worry about genre! This is about good music!

Ok lets get on with this.

I thought the best way to start this off would be to post up a few links to some projects, artists and tracks that are high on my list of favorites right now.

First off I am loving everything that i am seeing from the Blakroc project. An amazing colab project with blues-rock band the Black Keys on the beats and some of my favourite east coast rappers, like Mos Def. RZA, Pharoahe Monch and Q Tip!

The full album dropped at the end of November, so definitely go grab it!

they have also been posting a really great video log of the whole album process that you can watch on their site www.blakroc.com

anyways here is a wee vid to give you the idea. check this out!

Moving right along
DOUSTER

Photobucket
One of my fav producer’s right now is French wonder kid Douster

This guy always comes with heat. Always high on the blogosphere radar through out 2008 and 2009 with his endless supply of remix’s and original tunes. Props to my boys over at scatterblog for getting me on to this dude a long while back!

anyways here are a some tracks and a great mix from XLR8R as a part of their podcast series.

ok this is a mega first post! But thats ok, its a good beginning.

So I have had an unhealthy infatuation with heavy bass ever since my sordid Drum and Bass days. It took me a little while to come around to Dubstep when it first started blowing up a few years back but now I’m a big fan! I have even been making some mixtapes! which you can DL here

JOKER

Photobucket

one of the most amazing producers to emerge from the vibrant Bristol scene is a 20 year old bad man by the name of Joker. If you have been listening to any Dubstep mix’s over the last while you would have heard one of his tracks or remix’s. This guys is gona be huge.

To be honest his sound at times moves away from the “Dubstep” sound into a whole new crazy style. That’s kinda why I like him so much, his tracks are just good music! At times sounding like they need a rap lyric over the top or a vocalist.

blah blah. here’s some track I like and a cheeky bootleg I made a while back! enjoy

Basement Jaxx – Raindrops _Joker and Ginz Remix

Radiates – Joker Remix

digidesign

Joker vs Rick Ross (Kev Fresh Edit)

CENTRAL SPILLZ. How We Roll (Joker prod.)

oh and here is a cool little bootleg from a South African producer that I am liking more and more (post about him coming soon!).
